Medicover Hospital - Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery offers a lot of innovative surgical methods. Consequently, it ensures not only the highest quality of medical services but also the therapy based on the achievements of world surgery including, among others, minimally invasive surgery.

The Department performs surgery and procedures within the scope of: General surgery, Vascular surgery (surgical treatment of vein and artery diseases), Minimally invasive surgery, Orthopedy, Urology, Otolaryngology, Plastic and cosmetic surgery, One-day surgery.

The Department of Surgery has the most modern equipment for diagnostics and treatment which is used in advanced surgical techniques such as:

  • Laparoscopy;
  • Arthroscopy;
  • Angiography with a possibility of intravascular surgery;
  • Microendoscopy;
  • Lithotripsy - method of breaking up kidney stones using ultrasonic shock waves.

Minimally invasive surgery
Minimally invasive surgery is a technique widely applied by our specialists. It makes it possible to perform operations in a quick, modern and minimally invasive manner. Thanks to the application of techniques based on the imaging of the patient’s body, our doctors perform surgical operations and procedures without making a typical large incision that provided access to operated areas, thereby reducing the operative trauma to a significant degree. Endoscopic surgical systems used in the Department of Surgery reduce postoperative pain,  scarring and minimize blood loss as well as the risk of infection. All this helps  speed patient recovery and return to everyday activities.

Minimally invasive surgery has one more important advantage, namely it enables to perform many procedures within the one-day surgery system. This means that patients have to stay in the hospital only one day, on which they are admitted, operated on and then discharged. Such a solution reduces the length of hospital stay to the necessary minimum and significantly minimizes hospitalization-related stress. The One-Day Surgery Unit offers diagnostic and operative endoscopic procedures as well as minor surgical, urological, orthopedic or laryngological procedures.

Vascular surgery

The Medicover Hospital is prepared to provide comprehensive treatment of artery diseases. Patients suffering from chronic and acute ischemia, carotid artery stenosis, aortic and peripheral arteria aneurysms are diagnosed and operated on by specialists from the Vascular Surgery Unit.

The invasive angiology laboratory enables the diagnostics of the majority of peripheral artery diseases. In the case of ischemia, arteriographic examinations will let define the reason for the disease and in the case of carotid artery stenosis, they will enable to perform angioplasty, i.e. stent implantation in the artery with a view to widening the aortic lumen. The examinations also allow the treatment of aortic and peripheral arteria aneurysms by means of minimally invasive techniques using stentgrafts. Consequently, our patients are not exposed to extensive vascular surgery.

Postoperative care

Each patient of the Department of Surgery is provided with permanent, professional and coordinated postoperative care. Directly after the operation patients spend 2-3 hours in the postoperative recovery room. They are taken care of by the surgeon, the anesthetist and are provided with intensive nursing care.
Further postoperative treatment is provided in comfortably prepared patient rooms, the choice of which depends on patient’s individual preferences. Thus, patients can choose between:

  • Double rooms,
  • Single rooms,
  • Single family rooms for the patient staying in the hospital with one companion;
  • Family apartments for the patient staying in the hospital with one companion.
  • If the patient’s condition in the postoperative period requires stabilization, regaining respiratory, cardiovascular and alimentary function, the patient stays in the Intensive Care Unit under the permanent care of the team of anesthetists and surgeons. The treatment is continued in the Department of Surgery or Cardiology until the patient’s condition is fully stable.
