The Karkonoski National Park

KarkonoszeThe Karkonoski National Park is placed in the Lower Silesia province. The Karkonosze Mountains are the highest mountain chain in the Sudety Mountains. Main peaks are: Sniezka (1602 m above sea level) and Wielki Szyszak (1508 m above sea level). The park includes upper parts of the Karkonosze Mountains (area over 5500 ha) and two enclaves: surroundings of Szklarka waterfall and Chojnik Mountain.

The best time to take a walk through the Karkonosze Mountains is a period from May till October. There are 100 km of trails, 12 chalets and hostels and 10 ski lifts. There are many places worth visiting, for instance: St. Laurence’s chapel at the top of Sniezka Mountain, Samotnia chalet placed at the Maly Staw and Chojnik Mountain with a castle at the top. At the foot of the mountain in Sobieszow there is a small museum of the Karkonoski National Park.  Vital tourist attraction are the fantastically shaped rocks. The best known are Pielgrzymy, Slonecznik, Paciorki, Twaroznik, Konskie Lby.

The Karkonosze Mountains and the surroundings are not the only place to go in for wandering but also a great place to take advantage of cycling through many interesting trails. During winter time there are also  many attractions waiting for ski lovers. Karpacz and Szklarska Poreba are the main tourist centres of the Karkonosze Mountains. The most popular trails leads from Karpacz. Main attraction of Karpacz is Wang temple which was built between XII and XIII century at the Vang lake in southern Norway. It was moved to Karpacz in XIX century. Close to the church there are buildings of presbytery of a local parish.
